Constitution of the Universal Badminton Federation
1. Name
The name of the organization shall be Universal Badminton Federation (hereinafter referred to as “UBF”).
2. Legal Status
The Federation is a non-profit, non-political, and non-religious organization, established to serve the public good through the development of badminton.
3. Vision
To create a world where every young person—regardless of background—has the opportunity to discover and develop their badminton potential, beginning in local communities and rising to shine on global courts.
4. Mission
To empower youth through badminton by:
– Providing access to training, equipment, and mentorship
– Supporting underprivileged and rural communities
– Developing pathways to national and international competition
– Promoting values of discipline, sportsmanship, and unity
5. Objectives
– Identify and support talented young badminton players
– Train local coaches, referees, and volunteers
– Establish and support grassroots badminton programs
– Organize tournaments, workshops, and talent camps
– Build partnerships with local and international organizations
– Promote inclusivity, regardless of race, gender, or ability
6. Governance and Structure
The Universal Badminton Federation shall be governed by a two-tier structure consisting of a Board of Directors (Global Leadership) and an Executive Team (Global Operations), with support from country/regional chapters, volunteers, and advisors.
A. General Council (Board of Directors)
The Board is responsible for overall governance, strategic direction, compliance, and accountability.
Composition:
– President
– Vice President
– Secretary
– Treasurer
– Directors/Advisors
Key director roles
Director of Programs & Development: Oversees training, tournaments, and development programs.
Director of International Relations: Handles partnerships with international badminton bodies and diaspora groups.
Director of Communications & Media: Manages branding, social media, public relations, and announcements.
Director of Fundraising & Sponsorships: Leads donor outreach, sponsorship acquisition, and funding events.
Director of Governance & Compliance:Ensures internal policies, legal frameworks, and transparency are followed.
Responsibilities:
– Set the vision and long-term goals
– Approve major programs, budgets, and policies
– Oversee financial transparency and risk management
– Meet at least quarterly
Appointment and Rotation of Board of Directors:
– The initial Board of Directors shall be elected by the founding members of the Federation.
– For the first ten (10) years, board positions shall rotate among the founders in a manner agreed upon by the founding members, to ensure continuity, shared leadership, and commitment to the Federation’s core mission. The Board shall be elected every two (2) years.
Appointment and Termination of Officials:
- The Board of Directors holds the authority to appoint and, if necessary, terminate any official within the organization, including members of the Executive Team, chapter leads, or any designated officer, in accordance with the Federation’s bylaws and performance guidelines.
B. Executive Team (Global Operations)
The Executive Team manages the Federation’s day-to-day operations, international programs, and partnerships.
Key Roles:
Chief Executive Officer (CEO): Provides overall leadership, oversees operations, and ensures alignment with the organization’s mission.
Programs Manager: Manages the planning and delivery of training, events, and community programs.
Development Manager: Leads fundraising and partnership efforts to support organizational growth.
Communications & Marketing Manager: Handles branding, public relations, and promotion across all media platforms.
Finance and Admin Manager: Oversees budgeting, financial reporting, and administrative operations.
The Executive Team reports to the Board of Directors (General Council).
7. Regional and Country Chapters
The Federation may establish Country or Regional Chapters to implement local programs and extend its impact.
Country/Regional Chapter (Core Focus):
– Country Director
– Program Coordinator
– Finance Manager
– Local Coaches and Trainers
– School Partnerships & Community Liaison
Chapters are responsible for local engagement, partnerships, and impact delivery in alignment with the Federations global strategy. The Executive Team reports to the Board of Directors (General Council).
8. Volunteers and Ambassadors
The Federation welcomes the contributions of dedicated individuals who support its mission.
Key Roles:
– Youth Volunteers
– Coach Mentors
– Brand Ambassadors
Volunteers and ambassadors may assist with coaching, community outreach, promotion, and event support.
9. Advisory Council (Optional)
The Federation may appoint an Advisory Council consisting of experts in sports, education, and international development. While the Council has no formal voting power, it provides valuable guidance, networks, and credibility.
10. Finance and Transparency
– The Federation shall maintain complete transparency and accountability in all financial matters.
– A bank account shall be opened in the Federation’s name and operated with dual signing authority.
– The Treasurer shall be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and preparing reports for the Board Members.
– Annual financial statements shall be reviewed and presented at the AGM.
– All funds and donations must be used solely to further the Federation’s mission and objectives.
– The Federation shall comply with all relevant financial and tax regulations in the countries where it operates.
11. Donations and Support
- UBF welcomes donations, sponsorships, grants, and other forms of support from individuals, corporations, Federations, and governments to further its mission.
- All donations shall be received and managed in accordance with applicable laws and the Federation’s financial policies to ensure transparency and accountability.
- Donors may specify restrictions or intended uses for their contributions; however, such restrictions must align with UBF’s objectives and receive approval by the Board.
- The Federation shall issue receipts and acknowledgments to donors in accordance with legal and tax requirements.
- UBF commits to prudent stewardship of all resources and will provide regular reports on the use of funds to donors and stakeholders.
12. Amendments
Amendments to this Constitution may be made with a majority vote of the board of directors present.
13. Dissolution
In the event of dissolution, all assets remaining after liabilities are settled shall be donated to a recognized non-profit organization with similar objectives, as decided by the Board
